Connectivity

  • Does the museum have Wi-Fi? Yes. You can connect to the free wireless network in most galleries and at most public seating areas. Signal strength varies with location. 
  • Is there cell phone service at the museum? Yes. But, reception can be spotty inside some of the galleries. 

Getting here  

  • What is the cost of admission? Admission is free thanks to the generosity of Beaux Arts.
  • Where is the nearest parking garage? Parking is available on Stanford Drive and at Pavia Garage (5615 Pavia St Coral Gables, FL 33146, US)
  • How do I pay for parking at the museum? Visitors can use PayByPhone for payment, and on-foot pay stations are available in the general area. 
  • I've got an electric car. Can I plug in? No, Parking with plug-ins for electric vehicles is not currently available.
  • What are my public transportation options? Metrorail to University Station 

Onsite 

  • Are mobile devices permitted in the galleries? Feel free to text, tweet, or listen to audio resources during your visit. As a courtesy to other visitors, we ask that you please set your phone to vibrate and take all voice calls outside of the galleries. Additionally, the museum has free wi-fi available in all public spaces, including the galleries, study rooms, and lobby, but not the auditorium.  
  • Do you have foreign-language materials or services available for visitors who do not speak English? The Lowe Art Museum does not have foreign-language materials, but encourages visitors to use apps such as Microsoft Translate or Google Translate to access information in their preferred language.  
  • Is smoking allowed? No. Smoking is not allowed anywhere at the Lowe Art Museum or on the University of Miami campus. This includes cigars, pipes, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, vapor cigarettes, chewing tobacco, tobacco-related product, or any controlled substance.
  • Are baby strollers allowed inside the museum? Yes. Strollers are allowed throughout the Museum. We encourage families to visit! 
  • Does the Museum have a giftshop? No, the museum does not have a gift shop, but does sell a selection of catalogues related to our permanent collection and exhibitions at the front desk.
  • Is the museum available for private event rentals? The Lowe Art Museum offers elegant gallery spaces to host lectures and private receptions, all surrounded by magnificent works of art. Requests are evaluated in keeping with our mission to “preserve the permanent collection according to the highest professional standards.” To request an on-site tour for Gallery Rentals please contact our Special Events department at 305.284.1540 eventslowe@miami.edu. 
  • Is sketching allowed in the galleries? Sketching is allowed, but we ask that only pencils and a moderate-sized notepad is used. No easels or paints will be permitted.
  • Are refreshments available at the museum? No, the museum does not have a café. There are many dining options on the University of Miami campus https://dineoncampus.com/miami
  • Does the museum have an audio tour? The museum does not have an audio tour. For special exhibitions and other programs the museum will often develop audio tours and other digital initiatives and broaden access to information.

  • Are large bags, backpacks, or luggage permitted on site? If you arrive carrying a backpack, umbrella, laptop, or any bag bigger than 11 x 14 inches, we will direct you to our storage area. You’ll enjoy your visit more with a lighter load and less chance of bumping into valuable artwork. Please note that all bags may be subject to security inspection. Hazardous materials (e.g., pepper spray) and weapons of any kind are prohibited and cannot be checked.

Photography 

  • Is photography permitted in the galleries? Gallery visitors may take non-flash photographs for personal enjoyment in service to their museum experience. Photography made for commercial use, wedding photography, and formal distribution are prohibited. Please check at the entrances of changing exhibitions for any restrictions in those galleries. Where permitted, photography and video are subject to the same conditions described above. Videography, and the use of monopods, tripods and selfie-sticks are not permitted. To request permission to conduct a professional photo shoot, for press or educational purposes, please contact the Contact Communications: 305-284-5422. If you are interested in images of works from the collection, please contact collectionslowe@miami.edu 
  • How may I request a digital image of a work in the museum’s collection? Requests for access to collections objects and documentation, as well as rights and reproduction requests other than media requests, must be made in writing to the collectionslowe@miami.edu.

Accessibility 

  • Are service animals permitted in the galleries? In accordance with titles II and III of the ADA, the Lowe welcomes service dogs only. Service dogs must be housebroken as well as harnessed, leashed, or tethered to their accompanying individual. If you have accessibility needs please contact the museum ahead of time and they can assist you with accessible parking locations and other information. General Information: 305-284-3535
  • Does the museum provide wheelchairs for visitors with special needs? A limited number of wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge. Please inquire at the Information Desk upon arrival. 
  • Does the museum have assistive devices for visitors with disabilities? The Lowe Art museum offers wheelchairs for visitors who may need them. The museum does not currently have other assistive devices for visitors with disabilities. 
  • What if a visitor is deaf or hard of hearing? Sign Language interpreters are available to accompany a guided tour of the Museum. We require at least five working days’ advance notice.
