FINE ART OF HEALTHCARE

Through art interpretation, graduate students and professionals from the fields of healthcare, law, engineering, and others participate in workshops designed to enhance skills that are critical to these practices: observatin, listening, communication, critical thinking, visual acuity, teamwork, and empathy. Facilitated by the art education team, these workshops use a research-based teaching methodology called Visual Thinking Strategies to guide participants in a mindful exploration and discussion about a work of art.

"I will take what I learned today and apply it next time I am in a clinical setting."

These are typical comments from students who participate in the FAOHC workshops. In the beautiful Lowe galleries, away from the stresses of everyday clinical settings, they learn to slow down, observe, interpret what they see, listen to other perspectives, and communicate more collaboratively and empathically.
